Yesterday we put an offer in on a house! We have been looking for a while and saw it for the first time Friday (2 days ago!). We liked it so much we called the bank from inside the house while we were looking at it.
It meets all the criteria we were looking for for short term: more entertaining space, more dining space, another bedroom, a garage, ability to keep our current house, close to a park, close to the church. It also has some possibilities for long term that we weren't necessarily looking for this next house to have, such as the potential to convert the attic into bedrooms and a bath, while adding a master bath and a staircase.
Stats are that it is a 3 bedroom, 1 bath, 1600+ square feet, 1920's craftsman home in Columbia neighborhood with a dining room, fi
replace. It is down the street from Elizabeth Park and is on Elizabeth Street. Google maps says it is 1.3 miles from the church and a 5 minute drive (but probably less as we live a 3 minute drive now.) It has some neat character points such as a front porch that runs the whole width of the house, original built-ins, original trim, original hardwood floors. It even has its own older home quirks like a bathroom off the kitchen, a built-in ironing board, and funky closets. Overall, it's a sound home and we feel very fortunate that we are able to keep both homes and rent out our current home. Check out Flickr to see more photos.
The plan is to close on Feb. 28. Before then, we get to do fun stuff like get an inspection, appraisal, etc. There is a renter in the house right now through June, which works out well, because we still need time in our current house to get it ready to rent. The first part of July is our big Summer Academy, then we can move in late July and rent out our current house in August. We are blessed.
I am using this blog as somewhat of a baby book for Micah, a place to put all the cute things he says and does that I don't want to forget. And this way, Gramma and Nana Weezie get to see it too!
It's less now, but a few weeks ago, Micah would say about 20 times a day, "mommy come here, show you sometheen," Meaning Micah was so excited about his "Thomas train on the track!" that he wanted you to watch him playing with it. So he would drag us in and we would watch Thomas do the exact same thing the last time Micah wanted to "show you sometheen." He used to greet me in the mornings by bringing a book into bed so we could read it. Now he comes in the room and says, "mommy, show you sometheen."
Also he's stopped saying yes or yeah. It's now, "oh KAY!" as if you had the great idea by suggesting it, whatever it is.
Daddy: "Micah, do you want to read Thomas?"
Micah: "oh KAY!"
Mommy: Are you hungry? Do you want to eat?
Micah: "oh KAY!"
Micah: "want dat one"
Mommy: "this one?"
Micah: "oh KAY!"
Micah's favorite song over the holidays was Jingle Bells. But he preferred his version: "Jingle-bells-jingle-bells-fun-to-ride-HEY!" as fast as he can spit the words out of his mouth.
The cutest, though, is that the last thing we do when we are snuggling before bed is sing Jesus Loves Me together. Micah's version is "JESAH LAHV ME BIBLE SO" monotone, loud and repeated. So much for a singing career.
Every time he farts or hears the sink gurgle, he lets us know: "Burp!"
Micah can't hold up only two fingers, but says "I'm two!" proudly while holding up all five fingers.

Awesome about Micah. Well, maybe he'll have a career someday as a didgeridoo player.
