Happy Birthday Jay!

Yesterday was my pastor's birthday so we took him out to lunch today at Bob's Burger and Brew. Good times, good times. Happy Birthday, Jay!

Plowing Through

Some of you may or may not know, but I am taking class at Regent College, a seminary in Vancouver, BC Canada. This semester I am in Biblical Hermeneutics where we learn different approaches to scripture. There's rhetorical, narrative, source, form, redaction, socio-scientific, structuralist, post-structuralist, feminist, and canonical criticism in our studies. I just did a review of feminist criticism and it was pretty interesting. Many of the women scholars brought up ideas that I had never thought about.

For example, correlating the feminist ideas with that of the prophetic-messianic tradition calling for a reversal of the way things are. In other words, the prophets called Israel away from their idols and back to YHWH. So the feminist critique calls people today away from the subjugation and oppression of women. They argue that the patriarchality of the Bible should be challenged. They have an interesting argument, those feminist Christians...

Anyway, the title is "plowing through" because these next two weeks contain: choir rehearsal, huge hermeneutics paper, choir dress rehearsal, choir concert, Greek vocab tests and final exam, oh and the regular worship service planning.

I will try to keep up on the blog, though. I am having fun so far.
